Set Services is much more than a company; it is the embodiment of an artistic and family legacy that began with Valentín Fernández, a pioneer of interior design in Madrid during the 60s and 70s. Valentín passed on to his son, Javier Fernández, a deep appreciation for art, architecture, and design. From a young age, Javier developed an insatiable curiosity for beauty in the everyday, collecting seemingly insignificant objects such as empty cigarette packs, matchboxes, graphite pencils, empty beer cans, insects, and minerals. This artistic sensitivity became the foundation for his passion for art direction and the creation of narrative spaces. Javier’s professional career began in 1978 in short films, and by 1980, at just 21 years old, he debuted as head of the art department in his first feature film. From there, his career took off, establishing himself as an art director and production designer in 49 feature films, 24 television series, over 150 commercials, and a wide range of projects including stage and TV set design, music videos, ephemeral architecture, and graphic design. He also took part in major events such as the Universal Exposition of Seville in 1992 and Cartuja 93.

In 2004, Javier took a further step in his career by founding Set Services, a props and furniture house designed to meet the scenographic and set design needs of the audiovisual industry. This project reflects his dedication to visual storytelling and interpreting the characters’ environments and narratives, providing creative solutions tailored to the times and the demands of the industry.

Throughout his career, Javier has worked with renowned directors such as Javier Fesser, Pedro Almodóvar, Antonio Banderas, Eduardo Campoy, and Agustín Díaz Yanes, among others, cementing his reputation as one of the most respected figures in art direction and production design.
